Feedback is a Gift – Here’s How to Make Sure It’s Received That Way

Hey there, Reader,

Giving feedback is one of the trickiest parts of leadership.

Do it well, and you inspire growth. Do it poorly, and you create resistance, tension, or confusion.

So, how do you make sure your feedback is received as the gift it’s meant to be?

Be clear, not harsh. Clarity helps people improve—harshness just puts them on the defensive.

Offer solutions, not just criticism. Feedback without direction is just a complaint. Give people a path forward.

Listen as much as you speak. The best feedback conversations are two-way streets, not lectures.

I break this down even more in today’s video— 🎥 Video Link

If giving feedback feels like walking a tightrope, you’re not alone.

Many managers struggle with it—but you don’t have to.

Challenge for this week: Whenever you notice something that deserves feedback—positive or constructive—commit to delivering it within 24 hours.

Timely feedback is more effective, easier to receive, and prevents small issues from becoming big ones.

Use this simple structure:

(1) What they did well or what needs improvement,

(2) Why it matters, and

(3) A next step or encouragement.

Let’s make sure your feedback lands the way you intend.

Your body reacts instinctively, and the other person picks up on it—even if you don’t realize it. Next...
